Hospital Visit

12:47 a.m. Well, after an excruciatingly painful day, we’ve returned from a trip to the hospital about 15 minutes ago. I am so glad we went. My mom encouraged me to call the Birthing Center to find out what the suggest as a solution for this random and intense back pain. They suggested that I come in an get checked, make sure baby is o.k., etc. I had talked to my doctor’s office earlier and they said it didn’t sound like I was in labor, etc., but suggested a couple things that might help. Nothing was working and the thought of facing the night with this pain, was very disturbing.

So, when I got to the hospital, they were first of all, very nice and didn’t treat me like a freaked out first time mom. They hooked me up to a monitor. Baby’s heart rate is just fine, he’s doing very well. They did discover that I’m having contractions that I can’t feel, but they are pretty irregular. So, they doctor on call, which was one of the docs in the office where I go, determined that I’m not in labor, so this pain is unrelated to labor. She did an exam and determined that I am dilated about 1 cm. That’s encouraging. She was pretty baffled by my pain, so they walked me over to the ER. To make a long story short, they discovered I have somewhat of a UTI and gave me an antibiotic and a pain medication. I’m looking forward to a good night sleep and the ability to finally relax. Maybe now I’ll be able to feel the contractions. I’d rather feel the contractions than this incessant back pain, at least the contractions come and go.

Mahalo for checking in on me. We’ll do our best to keep you posted. :-)

Aloha ka kou!
